Arnold Alfred August Pankow was born on June 20, 1925, the sixth child of August and Ida (Tiegs) Pankow of Hankinson, ND. He was baptized by Pastor Walter Cordts on July 3, 1925, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Belford Township, ND. He spent his childhood on the family farm. On Palm Sunday, April 2, 1939, he confirmed his baptismal vows under the tutelage of Pastor Cordts. His baptismal certificate was signed by Selma Medenwaldt. Following his graduation from high school he entered the army in 1944. He was always proud of the fact that he was a WWII veteran.

On June 6, 1948 he married the love of his life Marjorie Ann Flados in Rutland, ND. They made their home in Wahpeton, ND where he was the Administrative Officer and Personnel Relations Manager for 37 years at the Wahpeton Indian School, now the Circle of Nations. He was always working on a project of some sort. He remodeled several houses turning them into apartments and building a four-plex from the ground up. After his retirement he spent most of his time "working" on his projects. One of his greatest achievements was creating a one man stand up golf cart which was produced by Yamaha. He made many croquet sets and used them in his yearly croquet tournament. Arnold and Marge spent their winters in Arizona where he played croquet several days a week.

The marriage of Arnold and Marge produced five children. Patricia Wanner and Dawn Pankow (Kevin Loll) of Wahpeton, ND, Ronda (Weldon) Hoesel of Lidgerwood, ND, Kevin (Naomi) Pankow of Cando, ND, and Sophie Mitzel (deceased) (Scott Mitzel) of Aurora, IL. He was grandpa to Christopher (Melissa) Wanner, Caren (Jerimy) Stanley, JuliAnna (Craig) Mauch, Jeret (Stephanie) Hoesel, Meagan (Charlie) Sinks, Nicholas (Julie) Pankow, Brandon Pankow, William Pankow, Brittany Loll, Brandon (Marissa) Loll, Justin Loll, Tyler Loll, Lucas (Kristin) Mitzel, Logan Mitzel, and several step grandchildren. He was so proud of his 15 great grandchildren: Anna, Allie, Ashlie Mauch, Lila and Lana Stanley, Morgan, Greta, Clara Sinks, Mason Loll, Brantley and Saige Loll, Matthew Mitzel and Arnie Pankow, Jayce Hoesel and Lauryn Hoesel as well as his step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, his daughter Sophie, his parents, August and Ida, six brothers, John, Herman, Rudolph, Rueben, Franklin, and August Pankow, Jr., three sisters, Gertrude Askegard, Margaret Steffens, and Ida Tobin. He is survived by one sister Lorraine Pederson of Lake Park, MN, and as he would say "all my begets".
