Letter: Standing Rock protesters were also exercising their First Amendment rights
The editorial board rightfully object in an editorial published April 15 to the treatment of the journalists covering the Standing Rock protests by the legal system. The press was exercising their First Amendment rights, but they were covering people who were also exercising their right to protest, and who were treated equally badly.
The Forum should see how many of the more than 300 arrested were actually charged and convicted. Rather than maintaining law and order, law enforcement appears to have been simply suppressing dissent and making life miserable for defenseless people.
